Robin Gasser

Robin B. Gasser graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Berne in Switzerland in 1984, and then completed his Dr med vet (1988) in Zurich, and PhD (1990) and DVSc (2000) at the University of Melbourne. He is a Professor in Parasitology, and Director of the Pathogen Genomics Program at Melbourne. His research team is exploring parasites and parasitic diseases using advanced genomic, transcriptomic and bioinformatic tools, with a focus on developing new intervention strategies against parasites that cause immense suffering in people and animals. Current efforts are focused on integrating various approaches to find new and improved anti-parasitic drugs for commercialisation. Robin is Fellow of the Australian Society for Parasitology and Australian Society for Microbiology, and is presently Vice President of the former Society. He is the editor and editorial board member of key scientific journals. He has received a number of awards/prizes, including a Fulbright Senior Scholarship, International WAAVP-Bayer Award for Research Excellence, and an Alexander von Humboldt Professorial Research Prize.
